Local Attractions

Castelldefels is a municipality in the Baix Llobregat comarca, in the province of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain, and a suburban town of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona. The town borders the coast of the Mediterranean Sea between Sitges and Gavà and is famous for its long beach (more than 5 km). It is located about 20 km (12 mi) southwest of Barcelona and is well-known for being an affluent area, as the place of residence of many famous sportsmen, such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Philippe Coutinho, or formerly Ronaldinho. The Olympic channel, called Canal Olímpic de Catalunya, built for the 1992 Summer Olympic Games of Barcelona is in the town. Castelldefels also enjoys close proximity to the major international airport of Barcelona, as El Prat Airport is about 15 Km of a drive.

Castelldefels Beach

The Castelldefels Beach comprises a length of 5 Km of fine sand situated 18 Km south of the city of Barcelona on the Barcelona coastline between the delta of the river Llobregat and the solid rocks of the Natural el Garraf park. There are 500,000 square metres of beach plit between the La Pineda beach, the Lluminetes beach and the Apeadero beach. They make a flagged beach for doing water sports, enjoying children’s activities, swimming in the tranquil mediterranean waters and sunbathing or leisurely passing the time by the seashore.

Castelldefels Castle

Castelldefels Castle is situated at the top of a 59 metres above sea level hill. It enjoys an enviable coastal position between the El Garraf and Barcelona, dominating the southern part of the delta of the Llobregat. Originally it arose above the original Iberian village, and was in roman times a large villa and later in the sixteenth century the castle was constructed.

Ground Floor of the castle:

The model hall: it can be seen the various models of the transformations the castle has suffered over centuries.

The Santa Maria Church: the oldest part of the castle, with three aisles of pillars and a semicircular side of the oratory.

Pirate: this is an interactive installation showing the piracy and repercussions known to have occurred in Castelldefels. This focusses the public through games, projections and stories which allows you to discover the world of piracy and the defences used against it.

In the different areas children can play games and use interactive elements to immerse themselves in the world of the pirates.

The Institutional or Noble hall is recognised by the grand stone fireplace here banquets were celebrated in the time of Manuel Girona.

Terrace

From the highest point of Castelldefels Castle you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and the Natural Park el Garraf, to the sea and towards Barcelona. To access the view point from the terrace you can go in the lift or up the stairs.

The Gardens

Surrounding the castle you can see wonderful views of the area and enjoy wandering through the magnificent gardens. There is also a cafeteria in the gardens where you can have something to recharge your batteries.

Opening hours: From Tuesdays to Sundays (Holidays included) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
